Chopta is a tiny hill station and a part of Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, which houses green meadows and dense forest. Situated at a height of 2680 meters above the sea level, the place is considered one of the best locations for camping in the state of Uttarakhand. Chopta is also the starting point of treks to Tungnath, which is the world’s highest Shiva temple and Chandrashila peak.
Often called as the Mini Swtizerland, Chopta is known for its serene beauty of its evergreen meadows and majestic views of valleys and snowcapped peaks. The place is girded by dense forest of pine, deodar and rhododendron and is famous for musk deer and rare species of birds such as Monal.
The other scenic camping destination that we are covering in this trip is Deoriatal. Deoriatal is a pristine lake situated at a height of 2400 meters. The site is best known for the breathtaking views of Chaukhamba peaks and its reflections in the lake.

Day 02 Chandrashila-Tungnath & return

The trek today has amazing views. The trek starts from Chopta to Tungnath temple and extended to Chandrashila Peak. Though the trek from Tungnath to Chandrashilla is only 2 km but due to the steepness of the route, it takes a bit longer. The peak has amazing views of the Himalayan peaks like Meru, Sumeru, Ganesh Parwat, Chaukhamba, Bandarpunch, Nilkantha, Tirsuli, Nanda Devi, etc. Chandrashila has also an association with both, the Ramayana and the Mahabharat. As per the legends, Lord Ram meditated at Chandrshila after defeating Ravana. After clicking photos at the summit, we start descending back to Chopta through the same route that we took before to reach up. It takes 2-3 hours to come down and we stay at Camps near Chopta. Dinner and overnight stay in Camps.
